    I understand that PLAP is geared, generally, more towards live recorded material but for a video like this I think it would be really helpful to A/B the unit against some tracks that were made wholly in the box. No mics, preamps, cabinets - pure digital because after all, those things add their own analogue flavour to sound already. Personally I am only very slowly starting to get into using mics to record audio having spent the last two decades working almost exclusively with MIDI and samples.

    Interesting. Many of the plug-ins/circuits in there seem to be analog emulations of other circuits as opposed to a digital emulation (like VST plug-ins). For example, the tube limiter doesn't have tubes in it, I don't believe. Definitely blurring the lines.

    Wait, so the 16x box only allows us to use 16 mono/8 stereo instances of a plugin? So let say, if I have an EQ, Comp and a drive on a bus I already used 6/3 processing cores?

    • @michaelmatarese322
      @michaelmatarese322 9 месяцев назад

      If your three instances are stereo you would have used 6 of 16 available channels.

    • @InTheMixJoeCarrell
      @InTheMixJoeCarrell 9 месяцев назад

      Correct. There are that many channels of conversion to run through that same number of analog circuit chains within the device.

    • @Rareos
      @Rareos 8 месяцев назад

      @@michaelmatarese322but it can’t daisy chain when you have the plugins on the same channel or?

    • @michaelmatarese322
      @michaelmatarese322 8 месяцев назад

      @rareos You can have multiple apb plugins on one channel of audio and the apb will use one (mono) or two (stereo) of its 16 channels for each instance. The best way to think about the apb is as 16 hardware inserts that are using one channel of conversion each. What makes the apb amazing is that each hardware insert has a plugin to control it and provide sample accurate automation. Hope this helps.

  • @Rhuggins
    @Rhuggins 9 месяцев назад +3

    My understanding is that there is no analog compression in this unit, nor tubes. The analog element is from the saturation. Not sure if there is EQ in there as well. Can anyone confirm this?

    • @Producelikeapro
      @Producelikeapro  9 месяцев назад +2

      No, it's not just saturation it;'s digitally controlled analog for instance when you operate the APB‑16 as a compressor or limiter, side-chain detection, equalisation and so on is handled in the plug-in, which then sends a control voltage to an analogue device within the APB‑16 telling it how much gain-reduction to apply at a given moment.

      Yeah these are raw tracks listening to the effect bus treatment only would have. That allow us to get heavier handed with the plug-ins to hear the flavor and not to worry about not being able to add very much processing because of treatments that have been going down line. McDSP have already sold a lot of these to professionals and it is their demographic which of course they understand. Many thanks
